The Word of Love

(March 1982)

The word of love
We spoke too fast
Hoping for something
That would not last.

The love of our life
Gone but not forgotten
I’d have made you my wife
Your memory lingers on.

How the thought pains me
Your wanting to break up
Like the words you see
In the verses I’ve written.

And as we break apart
Only your memory do I have
This and a broken heart
To share with a lonely tear.
